The uniqueness of moas

The seminary was founded with the aim of preparing young boys for the Major seminary and thus to priesthood. This makes prayer the center of the school life.

The school begins off the day with morning prayers and Holy mass which is celebrated everyday. The Holy rosary is said every evening. Students also have days of recollections and have a chance to receive the sacrament of confession.

The school has always stood out in the diocese as the best Catholic School. It strives for excellence, on both academic and spiritual realms, although the latter cannot be measured. Every year, the school sends at least five boys to the major seminary making it the main source of vocations for the diocese.

Student BOdy

A vibrant and engaged student body is the life force of any educational institution. Beyond classrooms and textbooks, the student body contributes significantly to the character, culture, and overall learning environment of a school The student leadership usually consists of form four students who have shown character maturity and are willing to lead by example. They take this position beginning third term of their third year in secondary. The student body is appointed by the rector after being nominated and vetted by the students and teachers. They are then oriented by their counterparts and also attend tailored trainings meant to equip them with leadership skills

MOAS BEGINNINGS

Brian Cunningham was put in charge. it started as an intermediate boarding school (std 5-8).In 1967, the seminary, as a secondary school (Form 1-4) moved to Eldoret municipality on plateau Road (Old Nairobi road)

Who is admitted to the seminary

Every year, the seminary enrolls students from the catholic based faith background based on their academic merit. The academic merit is based on the performance of K.C.P.E exams. The seminary admits students from other diocese within the country also. The school looks forward to enrol at least twenty boys from from hardship areas of the diocese which include; West Pokot, Marakwet, some part of Turkana and Baringo and take them through formative education and later send them back to their ethnic communities as ambassadors of peace and progress

SEMINARY on a mission

The school looks to enroll at least twenty boys from the West Pokot, Marakwet, some part of Turkana and Baringo (East) counties and take them through formative education and later send them back to their ethnic communities as ambassadors of peace and progress. The seminary has a special focus on helping the boys from pastoralist community because after primary school, most boys drop out of school and go herding, getting involved in rituals and also engaging in ethnic clashes and castle rustling.

academics

Mother of Apostles Seminary has created good relationships with other secondary schools within the region and beyond. The exchange programmes that they have with these schools aims preparing students for their academic excellency which is part of the objective of the institution.

Financial running of the School

In the past, the school received a financial boost from the PMS (Pontifical Missionary Societies) which subsidised the cost of tuition fees making it easy for the diocese to enrol students from every corner of the diocese, their financial abilities not withstanding. However, over time, this funding has dwindled and now amounts to a negligible source of income to the school. It has become very hard to admit boys from hardship areas of the diocese which include; West Pokot, Marakwet, some part of Turkana and Baringo (East) counties who can hardly afford any kind of education. These mentioned parts of the diocese have in the past suffered and still suffer ethnic clashes and cattle rustling. Had the Seminary managed to school a few of them and provided a perspective against the clashes, the conflict might have subsided by now.
Let’s join hands to support the seminary realize this dream.
